My name is Karoliina Nurmela, also known as Landale which is a pen name I have been using since 1996.

I am Swedish, but currently live in Notts, UK.

Art is wonderful and I love working with it. I use the help of the computer in many of my works, “computers are there to help us!” as my art teacher once said. Quite a wonderful thing to hear from a older and well respected person in these modern times where people claim those who use computers can’t actually create art without them. I love doing mashups of all sorts, combining computer with something hand drawn and so forth.
I also like other forms of art, such as sewing and creating various characters costumes from games etc, sculpting in clay and painting modelkits and figures!

My biggest inspirations in terms of artists and novelists would be John Bauer, Hans Arnold, Shinichi Kameoka and Tove Janson, CS Lewis, Dianna Wynne Jones.

I went to an upper secondary school that concentrated on traditional arts. But I’ve been drawing for as long as I can renember, but by no means can I say that I ain’t self taught. I think everyone’s self taught in the end.

2002 I entered one of Sweden’s (back then) only game related universities: gscept where I learned how to use Maya and create 3d graphics + various other useful things such as basic programming.

Autumn 2007~, I began my first year at Sunderby Konstskola (artschool) and finished in spring 2009.

Jan 2007 to 2009 I also worked part time at Sensus; teaching others how to draw in Manga-style which was a great experience to me.
